Slingsby Wonga Mda
I grew up in Ncambedlana, a middle-class suburb in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. My family has a rich history of entrepreneurship in farming, logistics, and property investments. My grandfather, Simeon Slingsby Mda, was the first black CEO of Prosperity Insurance in 1942. My parents, Sastri and Nomabelu Mda, were teachers who emphasized education, as did my grandparents.
Despite my comfortable upbringing, I struggled with anxiety, low confidence, and fitting in. My direct communication style, low EQ, and fear of public speaking created challenges in relationships.
After high school, I discovered self-help through Tony Robbins and Pastor TD Jakes. In December 2018, I read Growing Greatness by Pepe Marais, which guided me to workshops that helped me find my purpose. My wife and I attended together, and her support has been invaluable.
My purpose-driven journey led to heightened spirituality and humility. In 2020, I read Untethered Soul by Michael Singer and decided to embark on a “surrender journey,” leaving the consulting firm I co-founded to pursue coaching and other passions.
Today, I am passionate about helping others reach their potential through coaching. Many people struggle to transcend their personal selves to find their authentic selves, and I am committed to supporting them on this journey. My motto is “Esto Quod Es: Be Who You Are.”
